To honor her dad, she chose the stage-name Bea and in 2017 wrote an article about suicides that affected her family for The Guardian. Bea was raised alongside her sister Sinead and her mother Helen Moloney. Helen is a secondary teacher, jockey trainer and former professional racer. The family was obsessed with races as well as horses. Bea was a trainer for The Irish National Stud in her early days. But she was aware, that racing wasn't what she wanted to be as a profession and preferred performing.
